The Bernese Oberland is surely of the most spectacularly beautiful regions of Switzerland, and of course it is home to the most iconic alpine plants, which we all love to grow, but if you haven't seen the photos of Matt Mattus on his blog GROWING WITH PLANTS.com, or in his digital magazine PLANT SOCIETY, you are in for a treat. Matt is going to share with us his most favorite images from his annual summer trips to Switzerland, Austria and the Dolomites of Italy.

Beyond Paperwhites
Amazing Winter Blooming Bulbs
for Pots and Greenhouses
Many gardeners think about bulbs as spring-blooming, such as tulips, crocuses and daffodils. But here in New England winters are long, and although we are familiar with some winter bulbs such as amaryllis and paperwhites, most gardeners are ready for something new and unusual. Winter-blooming bulbs are the answer. Bulbs are designed to be practically foolproof, but where can you find unusual ones, and which ones should you try indoors or in a cool room? Join Matt Mattus as he shares some of his favorite bulbs for culture in pots, under glass and indoors. Matt will introduce you to all types of bulbs, from South African rarities for collectors to easy-to-grow yet hard-to-find gems, many of which you may have never heard of. Participants will take home a pot or two of some of Matt’s favorites.
INCLUDES A BULB FORCING WORKSHOP, BULBS AND POTS INCLUDED

Lecture will include photos of Matts collections of bulbous Oxalis, Nerine species, Lachenalia, Babiana, Ixia and many other genera of bulbous cape plants.
Matt grows his collections in his cold glasshouse in central Massachusetts where he keeps extensive collections of many South African bulbs and plants which grow on much the same cycle as many South African succulents and other geophytes.

RE-DISCOVERING SUMMER BULBS
Join horticulturist Matt Mattus as he shares his designs, ideas and inspirations for adding lesser-used summer bulbs to your gardens and container plantings. Learn about creative and unique ways to grow such delights as galtonia and old-fashioned tuberoses, as well as how to grow and display the sort of conservatory collections once seen only on private estates, with pots of seasonal bulbs like tuberous begonias and unusual Japanese bulbous orchids. Matt’s presentations are always entertaining and beautiful with his stylish photos and lists of sources so you can re-create these looks at your own home.
