Gentiana 'Kingfisher'
A cross between Gentiana sino-ornata and G. farreri reslts in this spectacularly blue/azure cultivar known as 'Kingfisher'. I had a bet with a fellow Primula Society member (Jaques Mommens) on who could in fact, flower this plant first this year ( a $1.00 bet!), maybe I won. Five blossoms have emerged on my 'Kingfisher' plant, which is planted in a trough along with five other Gentians. Reportedly, this plant requires a bit more care, requiring a diet free of lime ( only rainwater, so I positioned a rain-barrel near by so that I could cup water into the trough), and much like other Gentians, a soil somewhat acidic.

Gentiana 'Kingfisher' is bluer than other Gentians, below id s Gentiana boissieri blooming along with G. septemfida, to round out the autumn display of gentian-blueness. You can easily see that these species have a blossom which is more purple, than blue.
